Core Skillz: Kids Ages 7-9,
1st through 3rd Grade

Core Kids

This program was specifically designed to target the stages of development of 7 to 9-year olds. The curriculum in the Core SKILLZ Program includes years of research and development proven effective for this age group. Our goal for the Core SKILLZ Program is to maximize the effectiveness of each participants training with valuable lessons that will enhance their life.

Children this age are in a unique growth period in their life. They are refined in their gross motor skills, while establishing a foundation in core skill development. These core skills include: agility, technique, courage, flexibility, intensity, perseverance, speed, and concentration. In any other sport of activity, all of these 8 skills are important to have. The more exposure to proper development in each of these skills, the better your child will be. For this reason, we have tailored a training course that increases the intensity of each skill at every level.

We are an officially licensed SKILLZ school!

Our curriculum is infused with the latest understandings in child psychology and development. This means that your child isn’t in just any martial arts program any  more...

At different ages, kids have different motor skills and levels of intelligence. By creating age specific level classes. and using scientific facts to give them EXACTLY what they need at each level, our students become more engaged and our program becomes more fun and more powerful for their development physically, socially, and emotionally.

How do we teach your Core Kids?

This program was designed to target age-specific skills for children between the ages of 7 to 9. The curriculum introduces training to children that are mature enough to learn Martial Arts but still need extra attention to their core fundamentals. With that said, more emphasis is placed on building the core fundamental skills with a strategic balance of Martial Arts.

The goal for this program is to establish core skills that are significant in a typical child between the ages of 7 to 9. All students that graduate this program are considered knowledgeable in the skills featured and therefore qualify to move onto a more advanced program. Proper execution of this program can build great young Martial Artists with better retention than most traditional Martial Arts curriculums due to its comprehensive approach in age-specific training.

Understanding Our Focus

Physically: They typically have weak fine motor skills therefore proficient technique is not quite there yet. Also, they still tend to stumble when their body is in motion therefore advanced movement is still a little sloppy.

Expectations:

  • Struggle with fine motor skills in their blocks, strikes, kicks, and stances.
  • Sloppy when jumping, spinning, switching feet, etc.
  • Poor application of stretches.

Goals:

  • Demonstrate TECHNIQUE in blocks, strikes, kicks, and stances while applying SPEED and power.
  • Demonstrating AGILITY by applying proper motion to movements without looking sloppy.
  • Demonstrating FLEXIBILITY by applying proper mechanics to stretching.

Develops Character and Humanity

We all want our kids to change the world and make an impact on future generations. Through a focus on aiming and achieving goals, we teach kids to shoot for the stars and incrementally chase goals step-by-step. All while instilling values such as love, empathy, respect, humility, and discipline.

Encourages Teamwork and Socialization

Nothing unites kids better than sharing a common interest. We teach children to work together to better each other and accomplish great things. Bullying or competition in any form is frowned upon and each child learns to embrace each other’s differences.

Rewards Unbelievable Listening Skills

By learning the value of respect and humility, kids learn to listen attentively to their elders. It starts with an eagerness to learn all the cool moves and “tricks” they see their friends doing but once they realize what they can accomplish by simply paying attention they begin listening in other areas of life as well.

How is This Possible?

It’s not magic or some secret ancient wisdom, as cool as that would be. All it really comes down to is our philosophy and commitment in developing the “whole” student as opposed to simply teaching a specific skill.

We strive to raise our students to new heights in not just martial arts but also in overall health, character, discipline, confidence, development, and socialization. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what that “magic” ingredient is, but our combination of a flexible weekly schedule, accommodating approach, and focus on character development just seems to resonate with our students and their families.

Goals:

  • Address problems and challenges properly without interfering on the overall flow of the class.
  • Strive without the constant need for feedback from the instructors.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is Martial Arts Dangerous?

Although any sport or activity has some risk involved, our team of certified instructors follow safety protocols to ensure a safe and supportive environment for our students. In fact, unlike sports which has one adult supervising an entire team, we have multiple instructors monitoring a room at all times making sure everything runs smoothly. We understand that each student has their own unique limits and we encourage rest and feedback during exercise.

  • Is Martial Arts Violent?

Our classes are tailored towards accommodating students regardless of their weight, age, abilities, or energy levels. Astonishingly, many of our students have tried sports and other athletic activities only to realize it’s not for them. Martial arts is often a sanctuary in these cases as competition is eliminated and each student only attempts what they feel comfortable doing.

  • What is a Skillz Program?

Our curriculum is infused with the latest understandings in child psychology and development. This means that your child isn’t in just any martial arts program any more...They are in a child and student development course.

  • What special equipment will my child need to participate?

For your free trial, we recommend you come in shorts and a T-shirt to work out and have fun.  Once you signup, we offer a free uniform for each new student!

  • How can Martial Arts prepare my child for life?

Other than training children in conflict resolution and self defense, martial arts also instills essential life skills like discipline, honor, confidence, and respect. The process of goal setting and working towards moving forward is extremely rewarding and causes a major shift in maturity.

  • What if my child doesn’t like it?

With any new activity, it’s common to face some resistance in the beginning. We make great efforts to keep classes fun and lighthearted but at the end of the day it’s also an educational experience. We encourage parents to give us a few sessions to get through to new students but in the event your child wants to cancel, we offer a full money back guarantee.
